If this header is set the response for metric and stream queries will response with a Parquet file. A metrics response has the columns `timestamp`, `labels` and `value`. Christian Haudum	ce71f1cf95	feat(api)!: Fail log queries when executed on instant query endpoint (#13421 ) ### What this PR does / why we need it Background A log selector expression is a LogQL expression that returns logs, in contrast to a sample expressions, which returns metrics (samples). The simplest form of log selector expressions are label matchers, e.g. `{env="prod"}`. Change This PR changes the behaviour of Loki so that the instant query endpoint `/api/v1/query` does not allow sending a log selector expression as query any more. Instead, it returns a status code 400 (Bad Request) with the error message "log queries are not supported as an instant query type, please change you query to a range query type". Why Previously this API endpoint allowed these types of log queries, but returned inconsistent results, which where a major cause for confusion. Danny Kopping	e523809216	bug(volume): return 400 error for invalid volume request (#11313 ) What this PR does / why we need it: Making a request to the `/volume{,_range}` endpoints results in a 500 is a LogQL expression is given instead of the expected label matchers. The reason for this is that the error is not wrapped in such a way as to be interpreted by `ClientHTTPStatusAndError` correctly. 5xx responses from the querier are automatically retried, so any invalid request currently results in 5 retries which are unnecessary. (#9813 ) What this PR does / why we need it: Currently, the querier sends results to the query frontend in JSON which is then decoded to Protobuf. It is more efficient to send the results as Protobuf. This will also allow to extend the results with custom data structures. The change is backwards compatible through content negotiation. Owen Diehl	2bd9c91564	Bugfix include cache generations on querier response (#7300 ) We check the cache number (incremented by deletes) after executing a query with the value returned by the queriers which executed it. If they’re different, we know we can’t safely cache. However, we’re never actually returning a number from the queriers. This means that as soon as this cache number is incremented by a delete, it’ll disable the results cache for that tenant completely. I suspect this has been a latent bug since we forked cortex (goes back to missing some code from this [PR](https://github.com/cortexproject/cortex/pull/2279) into cortex from @sandeepsukhani back in the day!). It just showed itself once we started using deletes.	3 years ago
