Dylan Guedes	5c8e832260	feat: Introduce policy stream mapping (#15982) ... **What this PR does / why we need it**: Introduces the idea of policies to Loki, which are recognizable based on the given stream selectors. This is an improved version of https://github.com/grafana/loki/pull/15561 and built on top of https://github.com/grafana/loki/pull/15875. A policy mapping can be configured the following way: ```yaml 12345: policy_stream_mapping: policy6: - selector: `{env="prod"}` priority: 2 - selector: `{env=~"prod|staging"}` priority: 1 - selector: `{team="finance"}` priority: 4 policy7: - selector: `{env=~"prod|dev"}` priority: 3 ``` With that configuration, pushes to tenant `12345` with the labels `{env="prod", team="finance"}` would be assigned to policy6 because the third mapping for policy6 matches these labels and has higher priority than any other matching.	1 year ago

It also removes the `Enc` prefix for codec identifiers, so that they adhere Go's best practice of naming conventions, e.g. `compression.EncGZIP` becomes `compression.GZIP` when used in a different package. Compression tooling has been part of the `chunkenc` (chunk encoding) package in the past for legacy reasons. Since more components use this now, it's easier to keep it in a separate package. Christian Haudum	d8cc1cea83	chore: Make dedicated iterator package (#13273) ... Iterators of various types are widely used throughout the Loki code base. With the recent code additions of the bloom filters, a new set of utility functions for iterators emerged in `github.com/grafana/loki/v3/pkg/storage/bloom/v1`. The package defines interfaces for various common types, but also provides implementations to create and compose new iterators that implement these interfaces. This new package uses Go Generics. - However, at the current state, there are multiple iterator interfaces and implementations, which adds cognitive overhead in understanding how they work and which ones should be used. The idea is to unify them into a single iterator lib for Loki. - As a first step towards a single iterator library for the Loki code base, this PR moves the utilities from the `pkg/storage/bloom/v1` package to the `pkg/iter/v2` package. - Second, it changes the existing `EntryIterator` and `SampleIterator` iterators to "inherit" `v2.CloseIterator` in order to expose the same function names. - And lastly, naming conventions of iterator interfaces and structs are unified. Sandeep Sukhani	46fc0bed48	deletion: delete chunk overlapping multiple tables when processing oldest table that has it indexed (#11600) ... **What this PR does / why we need it**: When a delete request has a line filter and/or is deleting a chunk partially, we create a new chunk from the source chunk and mark the original chunk for deletion. However, when a chunk overlaps multiple tables, we apply heuristics to retain the chunk until all the tables that have it indexed get processed since we need the original chunk to build a new one. Earlier, we used to process tables from oldest to newest, so the logic to detect if all the tables indexing a chunk are processed was done by seeing if `chunk-end-time` <= `table-end-time`. To put it in simple terms, if the chunk ends in the current table we are processing, it means this is the last table that we are processing, which has the chunk indexed. However, this does not work anymore since we changed the order of processing tables to process the newest tables first. To get it working back, I have updated the logic to `chunk-start-time` >= `table-start-time`. In simple terms, if the chunk starts in the current table we are processing, it means this is the last table we are processing, which has the chunk indexed. **Checklist** - [x] Tests updated	2 years ago

Ashwanth	a118e994d8	Remove shared_store and shared_store_key_prefix from shipper and compactor (#10840) ... **What this PR does / why we need it**: #### Removes `shared_store` and `shared_store_key_prefix` from index shipper and compactor configs and their corresponding CLI flags. - `-tsdb.shipper.shared-store` - `-boltdb.shipper.shared-store` - `-tsdb.shipper.shared-store.key-prefix` - `-boltdb.shipper.shared-store.key-prefix` - `-boltdb.shipper.compactor.shared-store` - `-boltdb.shipper.compactor.shared-store.key-prefix` `shared_store` has been a confusing option allowing users to easily misconfigure Loki. Going forward `object_store` setting in the [period_config](https://grafana.com/docs/loki/latest/configure/#period_config) (which already configured the store for chunks) will be used to configure store for the index. And the newly added `path_prefix` option under the `index` key in `period_config` will configure the path under which index tables are stored. This change enforces chunks and index files for a given period reside together in the same storage bucket. More details in the upgrade guide. --- `-compactor.delete-request-store` has to be **explicitly configured** going forward. Without setting this, loki wouldn't know which object store to use for storing delete requests. Salva Corts	52a3f16039	Flag categorize labels on streams response (#10419) ... We recently introduced support for ingesting and querying structured metadata in Loki. This adds a new dimension to Loki's labels since now we arguably have three categories of labels: _stream_, _structured metadata_, and _parsed_ labels. Depending on the origin of the labels, they should be used in LogQL expressions differently to achieve optimal performance. _stream_ labels should be added to stream matchers, _structured metadata_ labels should be used in a filter expression before any parsing expression, and _parsed_ labels should be placed after the parser expression extracting them. The Grafana UI has a hard time dealing with this same problem. Before https://github.com/grafana/grafana/pull/73955, the filtering functionality in Grafana was broken since it was not able to distinguish between _stream_ and _structured metadata_ labels. Also, as soon as a parser expression was added to the query, filters added by Grafana would be appended to the end of the query regardless of the label category. The PR above implements a workaround for this problem but needs a better API on Loki's end to mitigate all corner cases. From a UX perspective, being able to categorize labels in metric queries doesn't have any benefit yet. Having said that, supporting this for metric queries would require some minor refactoring on top of what has been implemented here. If we decide to do that, I think we should do it on a separate PR to avoid making this PR even larger. I also decided to leave out support for Tail queries to avoid making this PR even larger. Once this one gets merged, we can work to support tailing. --- **Note to reviewers** This PR is huge since we need to forward categorized all over the codebase (from parsing logs all the way to marshaling), fortunately, many of the changes come from updating tests and refactoring iterators.
