I tested it on a dev cell and works fine. <img width="1296" alt="image" src="https://github.com/grafana/loki/assets/8354290/6177e0ca-02ce-48cd-a17f-0739dc3caa0a"> Note: With these changes, the JSON marshal unmarshal functions for the tail are no longer used ([example][1]) so I think we can remove them. Also, the new Tail response is no longer used, so we can also make it an alias to the _legacy_ one. Let's do it on a follow-up PR to avoid making this one bigger. Salva Corts	52a3f16039	Flag categorize labels on streams response (#10419 ) We recently introduced support for ingesting and querying structured metadata in Loki. This adds a new dimension to Loki's labels since now we arguably have three categories of labels: _stream_, _structured metadata_, and _parsed_ labels. Depending on the origin of the labels, they should be used in LogQL expressions differently to achieve optimal performance. _stream_ labels should be added to stream matchers, _structured metadata_ labels should be used in a filter expression before any parsing expression, and _parsed_ labels should be placed after the parser expression extracting them. The Grafana UI has a hard time dealing with this same problem. Before https://github.com/grafana/grafana/pull/73955, the filtering functionality in Grafana was broken since it was not able to distinguish between _stream_ and _structured metadata_ labels. Also, as soon as a parser expression was added to the query, filters added by Grafana would be appended to the end of the query regardless of the label category. The PR above implements a workaround for this problem but needs a better API on Loki's end to mitigate all corner cases. From a UX perspective, being able to categorize labels in metric queries doesn't have any benefit yet. Having said that, supporting this for metric queries would require some minor refactoring on top of what has been implemented here. If we decide to do that, I think we should do it on a separate PR to avoid making this PR even larger. I also decided to leave out support for Tail queries to avoid making this PR even larger. Once this one gets merged, we can work to support tailing. --- Note to reviewers This PR is huge since we need to forward categorized all over the codebase (from parsing logs all the way to marshaling), fortunately, many of the changes come from updating tests and refactoring iterators. (#9813 ) What this PR does / why we need it: Currently, the querier sends results to the query frontend in JSON which is then decoded to Protobuf. It is more efficient to send the results as Protobuf. This will also allow to extend the results with custom data structures. The change is backwards compatible through content negotiation. The new endpoint still returns volumes but now it does it for the requested streams defined by the selector names passed rather than individual labels. Callum Styan	5a85f6647e	Add initial implementation of per-query limits (#8727 ) What this PR does / why we need it: Sometimes we want to limit the impact of a single query by imposing limits that are stricter than the current tenant limit. E.g. the maximum query length could be seven days but based on the query or an admins decision a query should just have a maximum length of one day. This is where per-request limits come into play. They are passed via the `X-Loki-Query-Limit` header and extracted into the requests context. It is the responsibility of the operator or admin that the header is valid. This PR fixes this by: - Adapt the timeout wrapper to work with multitenant queries. This new middleware will timeout requests based on the new per-tenant query timeout * Add span logs to query calls missing it * Deprecate `engine.timeout` configuration The motivation to change this configuration to be per-tenant instead of global is that it makes sense to alleviate the timeout for particular tenants or make it more strict for others. Especially useful for scenarios where the Loki client doesn't handle context cancellations correctly; in such scenarios, since Loki would still process expensive queries that were canceled, this allows one to have small timeouts for most tenants, which will help mitigate unnecessary work without having a timeout that is too short for important tenants.	3 years ago

(#5626 ) What this PR does / why we need it: This changes adds support for the the following limits in multi-tenant queries: - `MaxQuerySeries` - `QuerySplitDuration` - `MaxEntriesLimitPerQuery` - `MinShardingLookback` - `MaxQueryLength` - `MaxQueryParallelism` - `MaxQueriersPerUser` - `MaxCacheFreshness` It always uses the more restricted limit. That means the smallest `MaxQuerySeries` but biggest `QuerySplitDuration`. The split duration is special. Zero means disabled. Also, the global default resolver is the multi tenant resolver when multi-tenant queries are enabled. This will result HTTP 400 errors in case the user sends multiple tenants to endpoints that do not support it.
