(#10333 ) Backport `bbfb13c3e4` from #10213 --- We pin all three `Chunk`, `HeadBlock` and `TSDB` Version to `schema` version in period config. This is the following mapping (after being discussed with @owen-d and @sandeepsukhani ) `v12` (current existing schema) - ChunkFormatV3 (UnorderedHeadBlock) + TSDBv2 `v13` (introducing new schema) - ChunkFormatV4 (UnorderedWithNonIndexedLabelsHeadBlockFmt) + TSDBv3 Note the new schema `v13` supports the latest chunk and index format. NOTES for Reviewer 1. General approach is we removed the idea of `index.LiveFormat`, `chunkenc.DefaultChunkFormat` and `chunkenc.DefaultHeadBlockFmt` and made following two changes. These variables were used before to tie chunk and tsdb formats specific to Loki versions. This PR remove that coupling and pin these formats to `schema` version instead. 1. These variables were replaced with explicit chunk and index formats within those packages (and it's tests) 2. If these variables were used outside it's own packages say by ingester, compactor, etc. Then we extract correct chunk and index versions from the `schema` config. 2. Add two methods to `periodConfig`. (1) `ChunkFormat()` returning chunk and head format tied to schema (2) `TSDBFormat()` returning tsdb format tied to schema. 2. Other ideas I thought of doing but didn't end up doing is make `ChunkFormat` and `IndexFormat` as separate type (rather than `byte` and `int` currently. Similar to `HeadBlockFmt` type). But didnt' do it eventually to keep the PR small and don't want to complicate with lots of changes. 4. Moved couple of test cases from `chunkenc` to `config` package, because the test case was actually testing methods on `schemaconfig` and it was creating cycling dependencies. Dylan Guedes	1221658fc5	Introduces cache to TSDB postings (#9621 ) What this PR does / why we need it: Introduces a new interface for fetching TSDB postings and implements a cached TSDB postings. The new postings interface is named `PostingsReader` and contains two implementations: a simple one, which is identical to the former Postings behavior, and a new one, that caches postings using the existing `index_queries_cache_config`. By default, the simple/former implementation is used. The new cached implementation can be configured in the following way: ```yaml storage_config: tsdb_shipper: cache_postings: true ``` In the future, we'll remove the `cache_postings` flag and change the behavior to cache postings by default.	2 years ago

While I was in there I also refactored the SQS work to be more consistent with #8750. I also made the queue name prefix configurable with the `sqs_queue_name_prefix` variable, as it was hardcoded before which could cause issues if multiple instances of this module are initialized in the same AWS account and region. Justin Roberson	dd9f30fcb0	lambda-promtail: Support SNS events (#9964 ) What this PR does / why we need it: Some use cases (such as S3 bucket notifications) are better suited for SNS rather than SQS when you need to send events to multiple destinations. Adding a little bit of extra parsing logic for SNS events allows directly connecting an SNS topic to the Lambda Promtail function and bypasses the extra complexity of the SQS queue. This lower complexity is very helpful in cross-AWS-account use cases like CloudTrail event forwarding. Christophe Collot	f2394355d8	feat(lambda-promtail): add cloudfront log file ingestion support (#9573 ) What this PR does / why we need it: This PR enables ingesting logs from Cloudfront log files stored in s3 (batch). The current setup only supports streaming Cloudfront logs through AWS Kinesis, whereas this PR implements the same flow as for VPC Flow logs, Load Balancer logs, and Cloudtrail logs (s3 --> SQS (optional) --> Lambda Promtail --> Loki) Special notes for your reviewer: + The Cloudfront log file format is different from the already implemented services, meaning we had to build yet another regex. AWS never bothered making all services follow the same log file naming convention but the "good" thing is that it's now very unlikely they will change it in the future. + The Cloudfront file name does not have any mention of the AWS account or the time of log it contains, it means we have to infer the log type from the filename format instead of finding the exact string "cloudfront" in the filename. Christophe Collot	b709b32d6a	feat(lambda-promtail): add cloudtrail log ingestion support (#9497 ) What this PR does / why we need it: ### Add support for AWS CloudTrail audit logs ingestion using lambda-promtail Calls to AWS APIs are logged in AWS Cloudtrail and are helpful for security and debugging purposes. However, I've experienced difficulties with it: + The AWS CloudTrail service is not well integrated with Prometheus (no metrics, no alerts) and I don't want to manage alerts in CloudWatch Alerts + The search experience is painful with CloudTrail via the AWS Console (I will not elaborate 😅). This PR allows ingesting CloudTrail audit logs sent to an S3 bucket using the same approach as VPC flow logs or Load Balancer logs. Special notes for your reviewer: + Because the Cloudtrail file format is not text but json, we stream the json CloudTrail records instead of using the already existing scanner. + Because the Cloudtrail filename format is not the same as for the Flow log or the Load balancer log files, we need to split the regexes by service (although many AWS services seem to share the same `defaultFilenameRegex`). + In the `getLabels` function, we expect the `type` parameter to be found in the filename using the Regex. For some log files (ex: Cloudfront log files). The file name has no reference to the service name. This is why, as a default, when no type is found in the name of the file, I set it to use the key of the matching Regex expression. AWS has a feature called `SQS redrive`, which enables routing messages pending in the DLQ back to the main (source) queue. This PR demonstrates how to spin up this architecture using terraform.	2 years ago
Salva Corts	bf56d9b540	Fix docker image tag in release template (#9425 ) What this PR does / why we need it: Releases in GitHub are published automatically from Drone. Drone calls the `tools/release` script which uses the `tools/release-note.md` template to generate the release body. Before this PR, the template used the `$DRONE_TAG` env variable which had a `v` preffix (e. `v2.8.0`). Since we publish the docker images without the `v` preffix, the docker images referenced by the release did not exist. This affected the `v2.8.0`, `v2.8.1` and `v2.8.2` releases. I manually fixed the `v2.8.0`, `v2.8.1` and `v2.8.2` release pages, but this PR should fix the template so we no longer run into this situation. With these new versions we can now default to 3 targets in scalable mode `read`, `write`, and `backend`. This PR also fixes 2 bugs when running in scalable mode: * the gateway should forward requests to the admin api to the `backend` target when running 3 targets * the index gateway should default to using `ring` mode, which will allow the queriers in the new `read` target to find the index gateway address for their index gateway clients via the ring.	2 years ago
