Julius Volz	8b1bd7d6c3	ui: Allow viewing detailed relabeling steps for each discovered target This adds: * A `ScrapePoolConfig()` method to the scrape manager that allows getting the scrape config for a given pool. * An API endpoint at `/api/v1/targets/relabel_steps` that takes a pool name and a label set of a target and returns a detailed list of applied relabeling rules and their output for each step. * A "show relabeling" link/button for each target on the discovery page that shows the detailed flow of all relabeling rules (based on the API response) for that target. sh0rez	5303e515af	remote/otlp: convert delta to cumulative (#15165 ) What Adds support for OTLP delta temporality to the OTLP endpoint. This is done by calling the deltatocumulative processor from the OpenTelemetry collector during OTLP conversion. Why Delta conversion is a naturally stateful process, which requires careful request routing when operated inside a collector. Prometheus is already stateful and doing the conversion in-server reduces the operational burden on the ingest architecture by only having one stateful component. How deltatocumulative is a OTel collector component that works as follows: * pmetric.Metrics come from a receiver or in this case from the HTTP client * It operates as an in-place update loop: * for each sample, if not delta, leave unmodified * if delta, do: * state += sample, where state is the in-memory sum of all previous samples * sample = state, sample value is now cumulative * this is supported for sums (counters), gauges, histograms (old histograms) and exponential histograms (native histograms) If a series receives no new samples for 5m, its state is removed from memory Performance Delta performance is a stateful operation and the OTel code is not highly optimized yet, e.g. it locks the entire processor for each request. Nonetheless, care has been taken to mitigate those effects: delta conversion is behind a feature flag. If disabled, no conversion code is ever invoked if enabled, conversion is not invoked if request not actually contains delta samples. TJ Hoplock	6ebfbd2d54	chore!: adopt log/slog, remove go-kit/log For: #14355 This commit updates Prometheus to adopt stdlib's log/slog package in favor of go-kit/log. As part of converting to use slog, several other related changes are required to get prometheus working, including: - removed unused logging util func `RateLimit()` - forward ported the util/logging/Deduper logging by implementing a small custom slog.Handler that does the deduping before chaining log calls to the underlying real slog.Logger - move some of the json file logging functionality to use prom/common package functionality - refactored some of the new json file logging for scraping - changes to promql.QueryLogger interface to swap out logging methods for relevant slog sugar wrappers - updated lots of tests that used/replicated custom logging functionality, attempting to keep the logical goal of the tests consistent after the transition - added a healthy amount of `if logger == nil { $makeLogger }` type conditional checks amongst various functions where none were provided -- old code that used the go-kit/log.Logger interface had several places where there were nil references when trying to use functions like `With()` to add keyvals on the new *slog.Logger type Signed-off-by: TJ Hoplock <t.hoplock@gmail.com>	2 years ago
Julien	6cde0096e2	Add notifications to the web UI when configuration reload fails. This commit introduces a new `/api/v1/notifications/live` endpoint that utilizes Server-Sent Events (SSE) to stream notifications to the web UI. This is used to display alerts such as when a configuration reload has failed. I opted for SSE over WebSockets because SSE is simpler to implement and more robust for our use case. Since we only need one-way communication from the server to the client, SSE fits perfectly without the overhead of establishing and maintaining a two-way WebSocket connection. When the SSE connection fails, we go back to a classic /api/v1/notifications API endpoint. This commit also contains the required UI changes for the new Mantine UI. In #13215 we allowed an existing object to be reused when converting an integer histogram to a float histogram. This commit follows the same idea and allows injecting an existing object in the AtHistogram and AtFloatHistogram methods. When the injected value is nil, iterators allocate new histograms, otherwise they populate and return the injected object. The commit also adds a CopyTo method to Histogram and FloatHistogram which is used in the BufferedIterator to overwrite items in the ring instead of making new copies. The idea is to offer an hashing function which doesn't change over time, and that's used by query sharding in order to get a stable behaviour over time. The implementation of labels.StableHash() is the hashing function used by Prometheus before stringlabels, and what's used by Grafana Mimir for query sharding (because built before stringlabels was a thing). Follow up work As mentioned in #10420, if this PR is accepted I'm also open to upload another foundamental piece used by Grafana Mimir query sharding to accelerate the query execution: an optional, configurable and fast in-memory cache for the series hashes. zenador	69edd8709b	Add warnings (and annotations) to PromQL query results (#12152 ) Return annotations (warnings and infos) from PromQL queries This generalizes the warnings we have already used before (but only for problems with remote read) as "annotations". Annotations can be warnings or infos (the latter could be false positives). We do not treat them different in the API for now and return them all as "warnings". It would be easy to distinguish them and return infos separately, should that appear useful in the future. The new annotations are then used to create a lot of warnings or infos during PromQL evaluations. Partially these are things we have wanted for a long time (e.g. inform the user that they have applied `rate` to a metric that doesn't look like a counter), but the new native histograms have created even more needs for those annotations (e.g. if a query tries to aggregate float numbers with histograms). The annotations added here are not yet complete. A prominent example would be a warning about a range too short for a rate calculation. But such a warnings is more tricky to create with good fidelity and we will tackle it later. Bryan Boreham	1e3fef6ab0	scraping: limit detail on dropped targets, to save memory (#12647 ) It's possible (quite common on Kubernetes) to have a service discovery return thousands of targets then drop most of them in relabel rules. The main place this data is used is to display in the web UI, where you don't want thousands of lines of display. beorn7	c3c7d44d84	lint: Adjust to the lint warnings raised by current versions of golint-ci We haven't updated golint-ci in our CI yet, but this commit prepares for that. There are a lot of new warnings, and it is mostly because the "revive" linter got updated. I agree with most of the new warnings, mostly around not naming unused function parameters (although it is justified in some cases for documentation purposes – while things like mocks are a good example where not naming the parameter is clearer). I'm pretty upset about the "empty block" warning to include `for` loops. It's such a common pattern to do something in the head of the `for` loop and then have an empty block. There is still an open issue about this: https://github.com/mgechev/revive/issues/810 I have disabled "revive" altogether in files where empty blocks are used excessively, and I have made the effort to add individual `// nolint:revive` where empty blocks are used just once or twice. It's borderline noisy, though, but let's go with it for now. I should mention that none of the "empty block" warnings for `for` loop bodies were legitimate. Łukasz Mierzwa	e1b7082008	Show individual scrape pools on /targets page (#11142 ) * Add API endpoints for getting scrape pool names This adds api/v1/scrape_pools endpoint that returns the list of names of all the scrape pools configured. Having it allows to find out what scrape pools are defined without having to list and parse all targets. The second change is adding scrapePool query parameter support in api/v1/targets endpoint, that allows to filter returned targets by only finding ones for passed scrape pool name. Both changes allow to query for a specific scrape pool data, rather than getting all the targets for all possible scrape pools. The problem with api/v1/targets endpoint is that it returns huge amount of data if you configure a lot of scrape pools. This works great if you only have a few scrape pools configured, but for systems with a lot of scrape pools and targets this slow things down a lot. Not only does the /targets page load very slowly in such case (waiting for huge API response) but it also take a long time to render, due to huge number of elements. This change adds a dropdown selector so it's possible to select only intersting scrape pool to view. There's also scrapePool query param that will open selected pool automatically.
